Colorado Career Coach - Five Rules for Thriving in Hard Times

As a result of my training and experience as a career coach I have developed the following guidelines for powerful action during tough economic or personal life challenges.

1. Stay inspired.
You are in charge of how inspired you are. Start every morning and end each day with a positive quote or an inspiring story. This ritual will train your brain to focus on what is working instead of what is not.

2. Make time for things that nourish you.
Spend extra time playing with your kids, petting your animals, taking a walk, going outside at sunrise and sunset to experience first hand the exquisite light show that happens twice a day. Let your heart and soul be touched by what you love.

3. Exercise.
You may be busy but all that added stress can get stored in your body and create major health problems in the long run. Exercising releases the stress from your muscles and joints and will allow your body to return to its natural state ready for the challenges of the day.

4. Consciously build self confidence.
Each day is filled with small challenges. Chances are you already are successful at meeting these challenges. Don’t waste the opportunity to stop and acknowledge the successes, even the really small ones. Whether you are working with a career coach to find the job of your dreams or just dealing with ordinary obstacle in your daily life, it is the acknowledgement of success that builds self confidence. This added confidence will give you the power to deal with the bigger challenges that come your way.

5. Learn what you can.
Each challenge you encounter in your life has lessons for you to learn. The downturn of the economy is no different. Maybe your lesson is being impeccable about your money and how you spend it or making sure you have been focused on furthering your education to reach your career goals and make yourself more valuable. It could be the lesson is just about being flexible about how things are. Accepting the lessons to be learned cuts down on the amount of suffering you experience.

Good luck with these five rules and remember in everything there is opportunity!
